Artist Statement

​​​In an era of spiritual exhaustion as the universe accelerates toward disorder, Duofu’s practice serves as a precise calibration of contemporary civilization. Rooted in his original philosophy of "MetaEntropism," his visual language transforms the canvas into a strategic dam within the relentless torrent of space-time.

Within this body of work, the signature intersection of vertical and horizontal lines ceases to be mere geometric structure; instead, it functions as a sensory instrument deconstructing the digital order. Bold, pure blocks of color are deliberately severed on the verge of overflowing, forcefully yet elegantly pressing the "Pause" button on existence. As the artist declares: "All things are not about the result; entropy is itself." Rejecting futile attempts to cling to the past, Duofu utilizes the defiant collision of color and line to clear the chaotic noise of the world at the exact moment of an abrupt halt, capturing the historic presence of the "Primordial Spirit" (Yuan Shen) hidden deep within all things.

Bridging the boundaries between the virtual and the physical, these works freeze a perennial, orderly texture of life amidst a disordered world, inviting the viewer to focus on existence itself.

Duofu was born in Shaoxing, China in 1965, and his original name was Zhang Feng.

He graduated from Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts, China Academy of Art, Universität der Künste Berlin , and obtained a master's degree in painting.

In the early 1990s in Beijing,Duofu participated in the "Yuanmingyuan Artist Village", which had a profound influence on Chinese contemporary art. He is part of the first well-known professional art groups in China.

In 2025, Duofu The founder and practitioner of his personal theory, "MetaEntropism".

Main exhibitions:

·In 1993, the personal exhibition "Materials in Art" was exhibited in the Art Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

·1993, the first "93 Chinese Oil Painting Biennial", National Art Museum of China, Beijing.

·2009, "Yuanmingyuan Artists Retrospective Exhibition", Beijing.

·2012, "Autumn Art Exhibition", Berlin University of the Arts, Germany.

·In 2013, personal exhibition "Cross Duofu", Hangzhou.

·In 2013, a three-person exhibition of Yuanmingyuan artists "Remaining Image", Hangzhou.

·In 2015 and 2016, two consecutive "International Art Exhibitions", Nanjing, won awards.

Since the 1990s, Duofu's work style and artistic ideas have been studied and documented in the "History of Chinese Contemporary Art".He is a pioneer in Chinese Contemporary Art.​
